Why You Shouldn’t Use 2019 Trends in Your Home Remodel

If you’re in the midst of a home remodel, you might be tempted to invest in the latest 2019 design trends. However, while they look fashionable right now, there’s a good chance they’ll quickly fall out of style. Rather than waste money on more remodeling in a few years, here’s why you should pick timeless decorations and furnishings for your home.

Reasons You Shouldn’t Follow All the Latest Remodeling Trends

You Might Hate the Color

For 2019, color is speaking loudly. Pantone has picked a swarthy purple called Ultra Violet as the color of the year, while Sherwin Williams has picked a brilliant blue called Oceanside.

If you’re tempted to try adding these shades to your palette, just wait one second. How will you feel about a bright blue wall in 10 years?

Chances are, you’ll soon tire of the gaudy tone. Re-painting walls is a hassle, especially for bold tones like these.

Instead, stick with neutral tones that will match any decor. That way, you can easily accessorize with smaller, colorful items, like pillows or curtains. Replacing these is a lot easier than ripping down wallpaper or buying a brand new couch.

You Might Regret the Price

For kitchens, one of the biggest 2019 trends is quartz countertops. While these look stunning and have amazing durability, their overall cost is a major deterrent. Typically, the price ranges between $115 to $200 per square foot.

So, if you have a 20-square-foot countertop, you could be paying over $4,000 with other fees added in.

That’s quite a bit of cash to fork over for a feature that doesn’t really have many benefits over traditional materials. For example, laminate is far cheaper and can be customized in nearly any shade or design you desire. It’s typically a safer bet and has been a tried and true trend for decades.

You Might Have to Clean More

White walls, white floors, white counters – 2019 is all about white surfaces, from subway tile to hardwood to furnishings. Infusing a room with as much white as possible creates a stunning, sterile look that makes your home look clean and put-together. That is… unless it’s dirty.

White looks great, but only when it’s spotless. Otherwise, each and every crumb, smudge, or mark will be immediately noticeable, making your cherished space look clumsy and sloppy. White is even worse for a bathroom remodel, where various stains can make it downright disgusting. Unless you’re committed to daily cleaning sessions, this is definitely a 2019 trend to skip.

Other surfaces which are a pain to clean? Stainless steel appliances. The shiny, metallic surface collects fingerprints like a connoisseur, preserving the oily smears until you wipe them down. Metallic furnishings like brass and copper have a similar effect.

While 2019 home design trends look cool now, they’ll soon be a thing of the past. Avoid remodeling your home in the future by choosing styles outside of the latest trends. This will make your home into a sanctuary that you can enjoy for years to come.
